Here’s Why We’re Striking


The value of our pay has declined. Salaries are worth 14.5% less when compared to inflation since 2009.

Shameful pay inequality. The gender pay gap in 2013/14 was 12.6% – a difference of £6,103.

The scandal of casualization. According to HESA there are 75,000 staff on highly casualised ‘atypical’ academic contracts.

Significant increases in vice-chancellor and principals’ pay. Twenty six VCs enjoyed a pay increase in 2014/15 of more than 10%. The largest increase was 57%. We are being offered 1.1%.
