100% Pay Deductions at Huddersfield

Wage Theft Begins at The University of Huddersfield

The University of Huddersfield has today begun the process of informing staff of the 100% pay deductions – blatant wage theft – imposed on those taking part in the Marking and Assessment Boycott.

Marking and assessment forms just one part of the staff contract of employment. Academics carrying out teaching, research, supervision, administration, recruitment, grant writing, bidding, industrial liaison, reach-out, student pastoral care, and a whole range of other duties are being docked 100% of their pay over many weeks for taking part in this entirely legal form of industrial action.

UCU members at the university are shocked at the draconian and punitive actions of management. The damage to staff relations at the university is massive, with the current environment described as ‘toxic’.

Huddersfield is understood to be one of just 17 universities in the UK to impose such massive deductions, which will be challenged in court by UCU.
